最近アメリカも、日本も豊かでないと感じる。お金のことを言っているのではない。僕の祖父母たちは、頻繁に旅行に行き、同窓会に顔を出し、盆暮れ人が集まり、何か豊かに感じた。ご隠居などと言われる人も、50そこそこの人もいたと思う。それが時を経て、70まで会社員が働く。旅行も気を使いながら行く。70で年金が出る頃に亡くなる先輩、上司もいる。僕もまだリタイア出来ないが、豊かに過ごしたいと今思う。
I feel that neither the US nor Japan is affluent these days. I am not talking about money. My grandparents traveled frequently, attended reunions, had Bon and year-end gatherings, and seemed to have a sense of affluence. I think some of them were even called “retirees,” and some of them were around 50 years old or so. As time went by, company employees worked until they reached 70. Some of my seniors and bosses died when their pensions were about to be paid out at 70. I too will not be able to retire yet, but I would like to spend my life in affluence.
